Mark your calendars for a few days in April in sunny California!
The ALADN 2000 Annual Conference will be held April 2-5, 2000 on the Asilomar Conference Center, Pacific Grove, CA.
Asilomar Conference Center is situated on the tip of the Monterey Peninsula overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It occupies 105 secluded acres of forest and dune minutes from all the other attractions of the Monterey Peninsula. Golf on world famous courses, tennis on the hundreds of courts that dot the Peninsula, fishing, shopping and dining in nearby Carmel, Monterey and Pacific Grove! You've heard of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Cannery Row, and the famous 17 Mile Drive? Now is your chance to experience these delightful and scenic locations and share the wisdom of your colleagues and other respected development professionals!

The Center has clustered accommodation areas with capacities from 24 people to 96 scattered throughout the facility. Forested pathways and a heated swimming pool are on the grounds. Asilomar State Beach stretches for over a mile. Warm sports clothing and walking shoes are welcome.
Meals (including homemade bread and pastries) are served semi-cafeteria style or family style in Crocker Hall, which seats 500.
The Social Hall features a huge fieldstone fireplace and cathedral ceiling. Ping pong, billiards, a grand piano, soft drink and coffee machines, candy, and public telephones are available.
CONFERENCE DEPOSIT
Because Asilomar is a state-run facility, we need to reserve our block of 100 rooms for ALADN 2000 by making an advance deposit of $60/person or $6000.
BY OCTOBER 1, please send your full deposit of $60 ($40, if you have already made an initial deposit of $20), with your name, address, and email address, to:

Please make the check out to Margaret Gordon, and note "ALADN 2000 deposit" on the memo line. Your deposit will be credited against your Asilomar food and lodging costs (estimated $108 - 135/night, single occupancy) and is refundable until December 1.
Please note that we must receive your $60 deposit BY DECEMBER 1. You will not be able to reserve a room at Asilomar after that date. Only the first 100 room reservations will be accepted, so please send in your deposit now to be assured of a place.
ASILOMAR ROOM RESERVATIONS
Since Asilomar is a state-run facility, individuals can make no specific room reservations until six months in advance of the conference date, i.e. October, 1999. A form specifically designed for the 2000 ALADN Conference will be posted on this web page at that time. Note that this form will be the only method accepted by the conference center for room reservations.
Your room costs will cover three excellent meals, daily maid service, use of the swimming pool, and parking.
ALADN CONFERENCE FEE
The ALADN conference registration fee will also be posted at a later date, and a registration page will be added for this purpose.
TRAVEL
If you are flying consider using airports listed below. Distances from Asilomar are shown.
San Francisco International Airport (SFO), approx. 100 milesSan Jose International Airport (SJC), approx. 80 miles
Oakland International Airport (OAK), approx. 110 miles
Monterey Peninsula Airport, approx. 8 miles
Monterey Airport is a small local airport. Several major airlines or their commuter partners provide easy connections through San Francisco and Los Angeles. However, check airfares as flying directly into Monterey can be more expensive than flying into San Francisco or San Jose.
By Car:
Pacific Grove is 2-3 hours drive south from San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose Airports. It is a spectacular scenic drive, and you can do some sightseeing, or schedule Bay Area donor visits along the way.
Driving from San Francisco
1. Go south along Highway 101 until you reach Salinas (Prunedale area).
2. Take Highway 156 west toward the Monterey Peninsula.
3. Take Highway 1 south; bypass Monterey exits.
4. Take Highway 68 west to Pacific Grove, where Hwy 68 will become Forest Avenue.
5. Stay in left lane through two traffic lights; turn left on Sunset (Highway 68 again).
6. Follow Sunset for 3 blocks; turn right at Asilomar Blvd.
7. Entrance to Asilomar Conference Center is on the left.
Driving from Los Angeles
1. Take Highway 101 north to Salinas.
2. Take Monterey Peninsula exit (Sanborn Road). At the stop sign, turn right to go back under the freeway (1st light).
3. Follow Sanborn Road through 3 traffic lights. At the fourth light (Main Street), turn left onto Highway 68 towards Monterey.
4. Follow Highway 68 for approximately 20 minutes to the Highway 1 (Central Monterey) intersection.
5. Go south on Highway 1.
6. Take the Highway 68 west exit to Pacific Grove.
7. Stay in left lane through two traffic lights; turn left on Sunset (Highway 68 again).
8. Follow Sunset for 3 blocks; turn right at Asilomar Blvd.
9. Entrance to Asilomar Conference Center is on the left.

Airport Bus Service
Monterey/Salinas Airbus Company
The Monterey/Salinas Airbus Company provides a bus from the San Francisco or San Jose Airports, which will take you to Monterey. Exit at the Monterey Transit Plaza and there take a local Monterey-Salinas Transit bus serving Route No. 1 that will take you to the Asilomar Conference Center.
