BizMiner is a comprehensive business database that contains many resources to assist you in your analysis and financial reporting.

Use the arrows below to navigate through this tutorial.
On the right side of the screen you should see the BizMiner search interface. (You can always access this database through Blackboard or from the UA Libraries homepage.)
Take a look at the homepage and the top blue menu bar. It offers six headings and five pull down menus:
When using a database for the first time wander about the pull down menus. For example take a look at BizMiner's Our Products and Resources. Lots of helpful information available once you know where to find it.

Identify software publishers in the Phoenix metro area.
Under Industry Financial Profiles select the following:
Click Access Now
Review the report by selecting HTML. This will open in a new tab or window. Switch back to this tab to continue the tutorial.
(Tip: To print a report, select PDF).
Note the Contents subheadings that divides your report into different areas.
Scan the report, make sure to look all the way to the bottom.
How many firms were analyzed in 2012?
Where did BizMiner obtain most of their data for this report? (You may need to scroll down to the About the Data section to answer this question.)

Review your report and answer the below questions.
What year were most San Francisco, CA software publishing firms analyzed? (hint: look to your right towards the top of your report)
After 2011 are average annual sales increasing or decreasing in this industry?
Return to the Software Publishers  page by clicking the back arrow on your browser once.
This time you are interested in Micro Firm Profit-Loss Reports (5yr. report).
Review the Contents subheadings and notice that this report includes slightly different content areas than your previous report.
In the Income-Expense statement - dollar-based section of the sheet, what was the Inventory (% Revenue) for the firms in 2011?
The competitive market analyzer reports will give you an idea about the competition in a specific geographic location.
In the left side menu, enter the NAICS code 334118 and click Go

In the Industry Market Size and Market Share (Projections) section of the report, what was the annual sales?
In the Competitive Summary section of the report, what was the cessation rate in this market compared to the national average for this industry?
