What is a preferred search?

A preferred search is a way for you to save a search in the library catalog and use the saved search to track when new materials are added to the library collection that match your search parameters.

To set up a preferred search you will need to first log-in to your account, then create a search in the Library Catalog.

  • Select My Accounts on the upper right-side of the Library home page on the right.
  • Click Go to your library account
  • Log into your library account with your NetID and Password.

Let's set up a preferred search for a specific book that you are waiting to arrive in the library.

Using the drop down menu in the right corner of your screen.  Select Title from the list of options

  • Enter a title of the book or use the following: 
    Rethinking Modern European Intellectual History

  • Select the Search button.

To save as a preferred search:

  • Select the Save as Preferred Search button next to the Search button. 

How Can I View my Preferred Searches?

To view your saved preferred search:

  • Select the link Return To Your Record at the top right next to the Search History drop-down menu.
  • You will see your list of Preferred Searches displayed on the page. 
  • To receive an email notification when the book arrives, select the box next to the search.  Then select the Update List button.
  • To remove any of the preferred searches, select the box underneath the Mark to Remove column. Then select the Update List button.

How will I know when my book arrives?

When the Library receives new materials matching your search criteria, you will be notified by email that the material is expected to be in the Library and available for checkout within approximately 10 days.
