David Lewis holds a BA in History form Carleton College, an MLS from Columbia, and two certificates of advanced study, one from Columbia University and one from the University of Chicago.
He worked at SUNY Farmingdale, Hamilton College, Franklin and Marshall College, Columbia University, and the University of Connecticut, before joining Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis in 1993 as the Head of Public Services. He has been the Dean of the University Library since 2000.
He has written on reference services, management of libraries and scholarly communication, and is professionally active on the state and national levels.
He is a masters swimmer and enjoys cooking, scuba diving, and traveling to parts of the world where red wine is made.
