Junior Scientists Day Presenter Form

Dear Potential Junior Scientists Presenter:

We’re looking for UA faculty, staff, and students to help shape the young scientists of tomorrow. Does your Department/Club have any fun experiments or demonstrations for kids? If so, we’d like you to consider participating this year on Saturday, November 3rd. We are expecting a big turn out for our fifth year and hope you will consider joining in the fun and excitement.

Examples of last year's activities included:

UA Planetary Sciences/LPL – Phoenix Mars Lander Outreach Display – Hands-on activities and related animation and information toward current mission
Kaleidoscope-making and the wonders of lasers and lights
The Physics Factory with Physics Phun and their infamous bus: Conductivity and combustion; sound and vibration; matter in motion; giant smoke rings
Hands-on chemistry with slime-making and liquid nitrogen ice cream-making
BIO5 & the BIOTECH Project Building DNA models
Flying remote-controlled airplanes using a flying simulator
Electroantennograms – “What the Nose Knows”
Sun telescopes to view sun flares and spots
UA Entomology – Insect Discovery & the Tree of Life Web Project
Rope and math puzzles
UA SAE’s Race Car Team’s car exhibit on the patio in front of the Library
Face-painting
Project Restore – “Peace Gardens”
Water Conservation Activities with Tucson Water

We’ll open for the kids starting at 9:00 a.m. and close for our free all-you-can-eat volunteer pizza/soda lunch at 12:00. You can set up your activities beginning as early as 7 am on November 3rd.

If you can participate, please fill out the “Participant RSVP/Needs Form” below and hit the “Submit” button at the bottom. It will be returned automatically to Jeanne Pfander at the Science-Engineering Library. Please indicate the number of tables (48" x 72") you'll need for your activity and if you'll require electrical outlets and/or extension cords and the number of each of these that you'll require. If you have other space concerns, please state them in the space below also:
Please select the times you will be present during the activity:	7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. (for set up) 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (for event) Both times
If you will need funding to put on your presentation, we will be able to provide limited reimbursement of your expenses to the extent our funds allow. Please estimate the dollar amount you require to the nearest whole dollar amount. (Also, please save all receipts for items purchased to be submitted the day of the event or shortly thereafter.)
If you and your volunteers want to join us for free pizza/sodas from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., please indicate the approximate number in your group.
Please list the names (first and last) of your group of presenters/volunteers so we can create certificates of appreciation for all who very generously donated their time and talents on behalf of your activity at our event (If this information is not yet available, please indicate the date you'd like to be contacted to provide this information to us):
