Evangeliorum quattuor Codex Lindisfarnensis . Oltun et Lausanna Helvetiae, Urs Graf, 1956-60. BS2554.A63 L5 Special Coll.
A 10th century colophon (f.259) by Aldred, provost of Chester-le-Street in 970, states that the manuscript was written by Eadfrith, Bishop of Lindisfarne. Eadfrith became Bishop of Lindisfarne in 698. Like other Insular manuscripts, there are elaborate initials and carpet pages. Unusual to this group are this manuscript's evangelist portraits, which are symbolic representations. The original manuscript is in the Cottonian collection in the British Museum. The script is Anglo-Szxon majuscule of the Vulgate text.
