A mohel performs the rite of circumcision on male Jewish infants. The ceremony of circumcision is performed on
the eighth day after birth. The principal participants include the child, the mohel, the father (who recites a special
blessing), and the sandak (godfather). [NSJE:216]
Bar Mitzvah is Hebrew for "one who is obliged to fulfill the commandment." It marks the initiation into the Jewish
religious community for young men and women and is commonly held when they reach age 13.
