Major United States Federal Sites Related to Women Entrepreneur or Business
1. GPO Access

The GPO Access is the official site from the Government Printing Office (GPO). This site holds the official copies of the US government publications. Searching individual titles can be tricky. Some browsing of titles is available. The site contains links to federal agencies, congressional, executive and judicial documents. The site also contains a “news” section linking to recent government documents.

This U.S. Government web portal provides free rapid access to federal, state, and local government information as well as services to the public. Firstgov allows users to browse a wealth of information, everything from opening up a business and women's health.

3. Google Unclesam

A little-known “topic-specific search” on Google that searches gov, mil, and state government sites. In addition to Unclesam, one can find specific government documents on the web by using the “advanced search” section of regular Google ( www.google.com ) and searching the title in the “exact phrase” box. The “advanced search” feature can also limit a search to only find results in .pdf format.

After the fall of the Taliban, the United States launched a historic initiative to help. To accelerate progress, President George W. Bush and President Hamid Karzai announced the creation of the U.S.-Afghan Women's Council (USAWC) on January 28, 2002 . The Council promotes public-private partnerships between U.S. and Afghan institutions and mobilizes private sector resources to help Afghan women. Specifically, the Council seeks to identify concrete actions to bring real and practical benefits to the women of Afghanistan and to enable them to participate and take leadership roles in the political and economic life of their country. To this end, the Council has made education and microfinance its top priorities.

The USAID Business site is your one-stop place for finding important information to get you started. USAID awards approximately $4 billion dollars each fiscal year in federal contracts and grants. Contracts are awarded primarily for technical assistance but also for commodities and/or equipment, transportation services and occasionally, construction. Grants are awarded for a variety of programs --- some recurring (e.g., Food for Peace grants and other grant programs exclusively for Private Voluntary Organizations) --- and some for unique non-recurring programs. All contracts and grants issued ultimately support objectives of that part of the U.S. foreign assistance program managed by USAID.
About one half of the contract and grant awards made by USAID are negotiated, issued and administered by their Washington D.C. Office of Procurement. The other half are negotiated, issued and administered by Contracting and Grant staff located at USAID Missions worldwide.
