Datasets
Data.gov - Data.gov includes a searchable data catalog that includes access to data in two ways: through the "raw" data catalog and using tools. The purpose of Data.gov is to increase public access to high value, machine readable datasets generated by the Executive Branch of the Federal Government. Although the initial launch of Data.gov provides a limited portion of the rich variety of Federal datasets presently available, they invite users to actively participate in shaping the future of Data.gov by suggesting additional datasets and site enhancements to provide seamless access and use of Federal data.
Includes global data on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and more.
Historical Statistics of the United States
A definitive reference source for quantitative historical information from 1790-present covering virtually every quantifiable dimension of American history: population, work and welfare, economic structure and performance, governance, and international relations, all from the earliest times to the present. Can download data as excel files.
Homeland Security website offers Yearbook of Immigration Statistics, trends in naturalization rates, demographic characteristics of immigrants, and maps of U.S. migration data.
Interactive U.S. Census Demographic Maps (1940-2000)
Data from Social Explorer also includes interactive U.S. Religion Maps (1980-2000). To download data, see National Historic GIS.
Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR)
Consortium at the University of Michigan maintains large archive of social science data.
Murray Research Archive Dataverse
Harvard University's collection comprises over 125 terabytes of quantitative and qualitative research data, audio, and video.
Project collects and organizes data from various archived sources to trace changes in the national policy agenda and public policy outcomes since World War II.
Source of polling information anywhere from the United States and more than 100 other countries with 500,000 entries from 1986–present. Includes 1,400+ polling sources and 5,800+ individual topics.
Roper Center for Public Opinion Research
Specializes in data from public opinion surveys. The University of Connecticut's Roper Center has data from 1930s-present.
University of California San Diego Social Sciences Data Collection
University of Michigan Documents Center
This site has a huge collection of datasets.
University of Virginia Scholar's Lab Digital Resources
University of Wisconsin-Madison, Data and Information Services Center
The site also offers a discussion of the background to the 2004 election and voting behavior in national elections, and exercises that explain how to analyze the data and understand the results. Data on the site are accessible for free to APSA departmental members and ICPSR members.

A unique data mining and extraction tool. DataFerrett allows you to select a databasket full of variables and then recode those variables as you need.

Economic Intelligence Unit (EIU) Country Reports
GEOFred
Data-mapping tool which displays color-coded data on the state, MSA, and county levels. For example, GEOFRED can display the unemployment rate for all counties in the United States.
