National Technical Information Service (NTIS)Guide
Research reports by federal grant recipients. Most reports must be purchased, but those under 20 pages that were published 1997 and onwards are freely available.

GPO Monthly Catalog (1976 - present)
The most comprehensive listing of federal publications, including books, reports, studies, serials and maps. It attempts to index all the unclassified publications of federal government agencies. Retrospective volumes go back to 1895 under various titles. This electronic version starts with July 1976.

Department of Defense

Public STINT - Scientific and Technical Information Network
The technical report collection for (DTIC) contains all unclassified and unlimited technical report citations since 1965. Includes Defense research, information from hard sciences; environmental pollution and control; and behavioral sciences. This is due to the widespread interests of the DOD.

Department of Energy (including AEC and ERDA)

Energy Citations Database (ECD)
Bibliographic records for energy and energy-related scientific and technical information from the Department of Energy (DOE) and its predecessor agencies, the Energy Research & Development Administration (ERDA) and the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). Provides access to DOE publicly available citations from 1948 and with links to full text Department of Energy (DOE) sponsored research publications from 1995-present.

DOE Information Bridge
DOE produced reports as well as DOE contractor reports in the areas of chemistry, physics, energy technologies, computer and information science, and other related topics. Search and view full-text and bibliographic records. Covers 1995-present.

Science Accelerator

Single search to locate information resources of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) scientific and technical information. Includes DOE funded and prepared research reports and project summaries, citations to articles, eprints, conference proceedings, DOE related patents and more. Developed and made available by Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI).

EPA publications, many of which are available free online or can be ordered.

NASA (including NACA)

NASA Technical Report Server (NTRS)
Integrates NASA's following three collections through a common interface. (To browse documents separately from specific collections or research centers, click on “Collection” or “NASA Center” in the left column to select them, or use the advanced search to limit searches by them.)

  • NACA Collection: Citations and reports from the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics period lasting from 1916-1958.
  • NASA Collection: Citations and documents created or sponsored by NASA  1958-present.
  • NIX Collection: Citations and images, photos, movies, and videos are downloaded from the NASA Image eXchange and served out through NTRS.

Hewlett-Packard Labs: Technical Reports
Abstracts and full text of technical reports. Where only the abstract appears, the full text is unavailable due to copyright considerations.

IBM Technical Paper Search
Technical reports written by members of the IBM Research community. Some reports are available for download.

Collection of computer science technical reports made available for noncommercial use from participating institutions.

TRAIL (Technical Report Archive and Image Library)
