ON-LINE SOURCES:
The database covers topics about the U.S. and Canada. Be sure to limit your search to book reviews. Put in your author as key words. You can add the title of the book to further limit the search. Links to JSTOR.
Type author’s name and/or the title of book being reviewed.
Select Document Type Book Review if you have a large result.
AnthroSource The simple search works here. The author’s last name and significant word or words from the titles. Links to JSTOR.
Humanities International Complete Includes book reviews.
Type the author of the book in search box. When the results appear, limit by the words Books Review which should appear in the left hand column under “narrow results by subject.”
General OneFile Includes book reviews.
Type the name of the author of the biography in one search box and the title of the book in the next search box. Limit to Peer Reviewed for scholarly journals.
New York Times Historical Newspaper (Proquest) Not scholarly but often interesting the context of the time and the reviewer. Ed Abbey a noted environmental writer reviewed Deloria’s book Custer Died for your Sins. Type in your author name in the first box and some distinctive word from the title in the second box. Be sure to limit ARTICLE TYPE to Review from the drop down box. (The Library also has the Los Angeles Times, the Washington Post, the Chicago Tribune and the Atlanta Constitution for historic periods.)
Use Advanced Search. Limit by Type “Review.” Type the title of the biography in the search screen and change the drop down box by it to Article Title.
Book Review Index OnLine Full Text. 1965 to present. Earlier in paper.
Ethnic Newswatch This is not scholarly resource but if you find nothing else you might find a short review here.
