Haiti and Caribbean: Resources for country data and articles

Country Studies

These full text reports were done by the Library of Congress in the late 1990's and early 2000's. The Haiti Study is from 2001, and it contains information about many aspects of the country including language, religion, education, health and social structure. Each chapter has an extensive bibliography. These are found at the end of the file in a separate file.

Country Profiles

The profiles offer brief, summarized information on a country’s historical background, geography, society, economy, transportation and telecommunications, government and politics, and national security.

Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)

The Country Profile is the most useful document in this data base. Country Profiles outline a country’s economic and political status and background. They give an annual perspective on the long-term political and social issues affecting each country. Note that there is an archive of these profiles going back to 1996. The Country Reports are intended for financial forcasting.

HINT: you may find Haiti by going to the Americas as a region or from the alphabetical list of all countries.

Each country has a bibliography at the end of the description!!!

It may be used to find lists of Haitian polical parties, the country's constitution, electorial results up through 2006 and the names of agencies working on economic, social and human rights issues in the country. (Warning! Some of the documents and web sites are in French.)
