SEARCHING THE UA LIBRARY WEB SITE
TIP: Before you begin searching the Library Web Site, work through the following steps:
- Choose your topic(s)
- List all the terms that reflect or describe different aspects of the topic you are researching
- Choose at least two different topics
- Try the same concept by using different terms (i.e., culture and civilization)
- Determine the type of resources you'll need
- Books, journals, videos, newspapers, etc.
- Identify the type of information you want:
- General background
- Factual information
- Historical background
- Current issues
- Identify the appropriate section on the Library's Web Site to look for the materials.
- Books, journal and magazine titles, videos, etc. use: Search & Find: Search the Library Catalog
- Articles in journals, magazines, newspapers, etc. use: Search & Find: Article & Database Searching
- Learn to conduct an efficient search on the UA Library catalog
- Search your terms using the "Keyword" option
- Search your terms using the "Subject" option
PRACTICE: Search the UA Library Catalog for relevant sources dealing with: (search these terms as Keywords and as Subjects and compare results)
- French language
- French language dialects
- French language social aspects
- Language policy France
- French speaking countries
- French language history
- French language usage
- French language variations
- Breton Language
- French Language Canada (or Belgium, etc.)
- French Language Early Modern, 1500-1700
TIP: If you get too many items, try limiting your results by language = English
