UA Library Catalog:

On the keyword search page, type your major search topic into the top line. On the second line, change "Any Field" to "Subject."

Type any of the following into the Search Box:
Sources, Interviews, Personal Narratives, statistics, diaries, correspondence, biography, Archives

You can search more than one of these by putting "or" between words.
e.g. sources OR personal narratives OR interviews

You will be more effective if you find the official “subject terms” used for your topic.  For “Human Rights Activism in the U.S., 1790-1930,” type in “Human Rights” on the top line followed by the word “AND United States.”

You should browse through the list of books that come up and look for some relevant “subject terms.” Some include, “Civil Rights,” Women’s Rights,” “Anti-Slavery Movements.”

After you have picked the “subject terms” you wish, be careful to use the drop down arrow next to “Keyword” on the second line and change it to “Subject.”

A way to find sources not in the UA Library is to use WorldCat .

WorldCat is linked under “Article and Database Searching.”

Find the “Subject terms” in our catalog and then put all the terms in as subjects.  Because WorldCat has over 62 million records, a key word search will retrieve too many un-helpful results.
