MKTG 456 – International Marketing Management: Library Research Guide
Company History
Finding information about a company's history is fairly straightforward. Details about a particular division, subsidiary or location of a particular company may be more difficult to locate. To find company history information:
- Search the Business & Company Resource Center, a database of company and industry profiles and articles from business periodicals. Includes company history and chronology:
- Do a company search
- Select your company
- Look for the Histories tab at the top of the company profile page.
- Search the library catalog by Subject with the name of your company. Depending on the company you're researching, you may find a book published about them.
Company Financial Information
Financial information about private companies is very difficult to find. Public companies, on the other hand, are required to report a lot of financial information to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The UA Library provides access to two databases that include current and historical SEC filings, as well as other financial and company information for public companies.
- Mergent Online
A database of full text information on over 10,000 U.S. public companies and over 15,000 non-U.S. companies. Includes company history, officers, subsidiaries, financial data, and annual reports. Access to SEC filings (EDGAR) back to 1993. Also includes Company Archives, with information on over 4,000 public companies that were acquired, went bankrupt or merged out of existence from 1995 onward.
- Thomson Research
This database includes financial information on over 12,000 US public companies from SEC filings. It contains annual reports, historical financial data (10 years), stock pricing, ratios, and officer/director information. Filings are available full-text online.
