Shakespearean Lecture with Peter Medine

Description: Please join the Friends of the University of Arizona Libraries for a lecture by Dr. Peter Medine on William Shakespeare: Poet and Playwright. Dr. Medine, Professor of English at the University of Arizona will be discussing Shakespeare’s craft as an author of plays and verse and will illustrate the discussion with visuals of the Globe Theatre and readings of selected passages. Dr. Medine will place these passages in their dramatic contexts on the actual stage that Shakespeare wrote for.

Dr. Peter Medine, in addition to teaching at the University of Arizona since 1969, has held several research fellowships at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washing, D.C. and the Huntington Library in San Marino, California. Dr. Medine serves as co-editor of the journal Studies in Medieval and Renaissance History and is the author of various articles, and the author, editor or co-editor of six books. Dr. Medine has been Visiting Associate Professor at the American Institute for Foreign Study, University College, University of London and Visiting Professor at the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies Summer Program, St. Catherine’s College, Cambridge University. He has also lectured at Indiana University, Oxford University and the University of Sussex. Dr. Medine’s teaching and research interests concentrate on Classical Latin and Neo-Latin Literature and English Literature of the Early Modern Period.
