Join us for Tuesday Talks @ the University Libraries, an exciting lecture series in the Main Library East Lobby that explores the wide ranging research interests at the University of Arizona.
Masumi Izumi is Associate Professor at the Institute for Language and Culture at Doshisha University, Kyoto, Japan, and currently a Visiting Professor at the Department of History, University of Arizona.
Izumi’s presentation will analyze the political-cultural contexts in which taiko (traditional Japanese drumming) developed as modern performance music in postwar Japan and how the art was incorporated in multicultural musical scenes in North America through Japanese American community activism.
