Karen Williams Appointed Dean of the University Libraries

Karen Williams, Associate University Librarian for Research and Learning at University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, has been named Dean of University Libraries at University of Arizona, effective August 5, 2013. Prior to joining the University of Minnesota in 2004, Williams spent more than twenty years at the University of Arizona working in a variety of leadership roles in the University Libraries.
Andrew Comrie, Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs & Provost at the University of Arizona, notes that “Karen brings a wide range of skills and achievements that will enable the Libraries to advance several strategic priorities that are already underway in the areas of instruction, outreach, and research support. She has a proven record of leadership in advancing strategic initiatives ranging from eLearning and research data management to diversity hiring and training. Her strong national profile is evident in her recent election as vice-president and president-elect of the Association of College and Research Libraries.”
Williams will succeed Carla Stoffle, who is stepping down as dean after 22 years in the position to join the faculty of the School of Information Resources and Library Sciences, effective July 31.
