Description:

Part of the Congressional Archives, the Dennis DeConcini Papers total more than 600 boxes of correspondence, legislative committee files, voting records, photographs, audiovisual materials and objects. The collection is a permanent record of Senator DeConcini’s career in public service beginning with his election as Pima County Attorney through his three terms as a United States Senator from 1977-1995.

During his eighteen-year term, Senator DeConcini chaired the Subcommittees on Treasury, Postal Service, and General Government, and served on the Subcommittees on Defense, Energy and Water Development, and Foreign Operations.

In celebration of Presidents Day, this special exhibit highlights a small selection of presidential letters signed to Senator DeConcini regarding bills passed along with the pen used to sign the bill. It is a tradition for presidents to sign bills and then give the pen to members of Congress or other dignitaries who worked to get the legislation passed.
