Emilio Gil, Artistic Director of Tau Diseño - one Spain’s most distinguished and pioneering graphic design firms - will be on campus on Feb. 24 & 25, 2014 to present the American exhibition of his collection of collages, “Mapas que no lo son/Imaginary Cartographies: The Collages of Emilio Gil.”
A collection of 51 original works first exhibited in the Quintanar Palace Cultural Center in Segovia Spain in May 2013, “Mapas” challenges the relationships between art and design in a way that fuses the disciplines and opens up a new direction for Gil. The results are exciting new cultural creations based on a fascinating compilation of colors, techniques, textures and artistic conceptions many of which use elements of cartography in their construction.
The opening reception will feature an introduction to Emilio Gil and his work, comments by Malcolm Compitello, Professor and Head, UA Department of Spanish and Portuguese, and remarks from Emilio Gil.
The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.
