Description:

The University Libraries are going green! Partnering with UA Facilities Management (FM) and ASUA’s Students for Sustainability (SfS), some of the ways the Libraries are working towards environmental sustainability include:

  • Collecting paper, plastic, glass and metal in recycling containers throughout the Libraries
  • Recycling cardboard and packaging, etc. from the computers, etc. we receive,
  • Recycling used light bulbs, fluorescent bulbs, old/unused paint
  • Providing a roll-on dumpster for UA buildings around us to put their recyclables in
  • Installing hand dryers in the Library restrooms to reduce use of paper towels
  • Turning off hot water in restroom sinks to save energy

And… coming this summer - water bottle refilling stations in the Main Library to help reduce our dependency on disposable plastic bottles and their entry into our waste or recyclables collection stream! This is a collaborative project with the SfS Water Committee, funded by the Libraries. Look for the water stations on each floor of the Main Library later this summer! Future initiatives may include water stations in other library buildings and additional collaborative initiatives with our “green” partners!
