EVGeoCloud LandScan

LandScan is an accurate and reliable global population database, developed by the U.S. Dept of Energy, Oak Ridge National Laboratory. It depicts the ambient population distribution produced by an algorithm which incorporates sub-national census reports, satellite imagery, and local knowledge. The population data is gridded at 30 arc seconds (~1 sq. km) in a GIS raster format. The country and administrative 1 level datasets include demographic and population information.

There are two ways to view and download the data:

  1. LandScan (interactive web map)--turn layers off and on, zoom in/out, pan, locate by latitude/longitude or place name, custom area population count, extract data by country or by custom area, and import data.
  2. Access in ArcGIS software via WMS or WCS GIS server connection.See the following for instructions on how to set up the connection:
