Articles about Companies

A key way to find information on companies is to read through articles from business newspapers, business & trade magazines, and business journals). Often, this is the only way to find some types of information, and you may need to read through many articles to find the information you need. The library subscribes to several indexes to business periodicals; a few recommended ones are listed here.

ABI/Inform
Includes citations and abstracts of articles in over 1000 academic journals, magazines, and newspapers(including the Wall Street Journal) of which over half are full-text. Broad subject coverage of business, management, accounting, information sciences, and related disciplines. Search on the company name in the Company search field.

Business Source Complete
Business database that indexes over 10,000 scholarly business journals and other sources, with full text for over 9,500 titles. Also includes industry & market research reports from Datamonitor and country reports from CountryWatch and Business Monitor. Search by company name in the Company Entity search field. Some SWOT analyses are available.

Business & Company Resource Center
Database of company and industry profiles, company brand information, business rankings, investment reports, and articles from business periodicals. Mostly full-text. Do a Company search and look at the article subheadings for your company.

Business NewsBank
In-depth company, industry, product and executive news, covering both private and public companies. Offers full text coverage from hundreds of regional and local business publications (e.g., Inside Tucson Business).

Lexis-Nexis Academic Universe
Full-text articles from thousands of news sources. Choose the Business search form on the left-hand side of the page, then search in the Business News section.

Financial Studies of the Small Business

Mergent Online
Full text information on over 10,000 U.S. public companies and over 15,000 non-U.S. companies. Includes company history, officers, subsidiaries, financial data, and annual reports. Access to SEC filings (EDGAR) back to 1993. May also be searched by SIC code and financial & ratio criteria. Contains a Peer Group Analysis feature, which allows you to compare companies to their peers based on ratios like ROE, ROA, Gross Margin, etc. Also includes Company Archives, with information on over 4,000 public companies that were acquired, went bankrupt or merged out of existence from 1995 onward.

Thomson Research  
Financial information on over 12,000 US public companies from SEC filings. Contains historical financial data (10 years), stock pricing, ratios, and officer/director information. Allows for filings search by SIC code. Includes Industry Briefs and Peer Group Analysis. The Worldscope portion of the database has financial information on thousands of non-U.S. companies. Filings are full-text.

Value Line Research Center

Financial analysis of a variety of publicly traded companies, including major companies and select smaller companies.
