Finding Articles
You will need to find articles for your research topic.  The indexes/databases listed below will help you find those articles and in many cases will include the full-text of the articles.

Best Multidisciplinary Sources

Academic Search Complete
A stupendous place to begin your research. It covers all subject areas, contains mostly full-text articles, and contains both popular and scholarly articles. 

CQ Researcher
A fantastic resource to use when you want to learn about hot topics and current issues. Each article is well written and researched and provides excellent background information and analysis. 

JSTOR
A  full-text database of scholarly articles. It covers a wide variety of topics from economics to African American studies to biology. It is a great place to gain a contextual understanding of your topic.

Lexis-Nexis – Academic Universe
Offers coverage from a wide variety of national, local, and university newspapers and is a terrific resource to use when you need information on current events and campus related information.

Google Scholar
A part of Google that searches only scholarly or academic articles or other publications.  Don’t ever pay for an article on Google before you check to see if you can get it for free from the library.

 

Specialized Sources

Business Source Complete
A great source for business topics. Mostly full-text database of company and industry profiles, company brand information, business rankings, investment reports, and articles from business magazines and journals.

ERIC
Is your topic about education? If so, use ERIC. It contains journal articles, conference papers and studies that examine education from preschool to adult education.

Ethnic Newswatch
This is a unique source for full-text articles from ethnic, minority or Native American newspapers, magazines and journals.

GenderWatch
Looking for articles about issues relating to Women’s, Men’s or Gender Studies – like women in the military, divorced fathers, gay parenting or hundreds of other issues?  Use GenderWatch – it’s easy and it’s mostly full-text.

Health Reference Center
Provides both popular and scholarly articles on all aspects of health. Use this resource when you are writing about topics related to traditional or complementary medicine and health.

PsycInfo
Are you looking for research and studies on why people do the things they do? PsychInfo provides comprehensive information on psychological related material. 

Sociological Abstracts
Does your research center on the institutions, organizations and the social behavior of humans? If so, use Sociological Abstracts. A wide variety of topics are covered from the management of complex organizations to the study of power and violence.
