GENERAL SITES
Bioethics Resources on the Web
The Internet is replete with resources available to those with an interest in bioethics including education, research involving human participants and animals, medical and health care ethics, and the implications of applied genetics and biotechnology. This website contains a broad collage of annotated web links, and while this list is comprehensive, it is not totally inclusive. The listed resources provide background information and various positions on issues in bioethics. Where possible, we have linked directly to those positions. Click here for more information on this site.
Guide to Internet Resources for Biological Taxonomy & Classification
A guide to biological taxonomy sites from the Learning Resources Center at Montgomery College.
INFOMINE - Scholarly Internet Resource Collections
Contains useful Internet resources such as databases, electronic journals, electronic books, bulletin boards, mailing lists, online library card catalogs, articles, directories of researchers, and many other types of information.
Intute is a free online service providing you with access to the very best Web resources for education and research. The service is created by a network of UK universities and partners. Subject specialists select and evaluate the websites in our database and write high quality descriptions of the resources. The database contains 115930 records.
National Biological Information Infrastructure
NBII is a broad, collaborative program to provide increased access to data and information on the nation's biological resources.
National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI)
NCBI was established by Congress in 1988 as a national resource for molecular biology information. Their primary mission is to develop new information technologies to aid in the understanding of fundamental molecular and genetic processes that control health and disease.
NLM is the world's largest medical library. The Library collects materials and provides information and research services in all areas of biomedicine and health care.
Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM)
Based on the book, Mendelian Inheritance in Man, authored and edited by Dr. Victor A. McKusick et al.This is a catalog of human genes and genetic disorders, with links to literature references, sequence records, maps, and related databases. NOTE: OMIM is intended for use primarily by physicians and other professionals concerned with genetic disorders, by genetics researchers, and by advanced students in science and medicine. While the OMIM database is open to the public, users seeking information about a personal medical or genetic condition are urged to consult with a qualified physician for diagnosis and for answers to personal questions.
