The Beethoven Bibliography Database.A fully-indexed bibliography of published (and selected unpublished) materials relating to Ludwig van Beethoven. The aims of the bibliography are: to bring all significant Beethoven materials from the late eighteenth century to the present under bibliographic control through the development of a specially designed database, to improve access to materials by providing in-depth subject analysis of the literature, to enhance the bibliographic records with other desirable access points, and to provide information on locations of primary research materials.

Beethoven Haus-Bonn. This museum site located in Beethoven's home town is a treasure trove of information about Beethoven.

Classical Music Library (available only to UA Students, Faculty and Staff) Classical Music Library is the world's largest multi-label database of recordings for listening and learning in libraries. Coverage of repertoire is increasing as new labels are added (currently over 32 labels-- Territory restrictions apply outside the US and Europe), with a particular focus on contemporary music and women composers.

Classical Music Navigator, The This site is a compilation of information on important classical music composers and their works and has arrayed these data in a fashion making it easier for the novice or casual listener to identify additional materials that are allied to his or her already-existing "points of familiarity."

Jean Baptiste Lully Collection (The University of North Texas Music Library). "A multimedia thematic catalog of the UNT Music Library's collection of  early editions of operas and ballets by the French Baroque composer Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687), and a nucleus for collecting information useful to anyone studying those works".

Music History 102: A Guide to Western Composers and their Music from the Middle Ages to the Present. (Internet Public Library). A collection of texts, images and audio files of various works of classical music.

Naxos Music Library  (available only to UA Students, Faculty and Staff) Access over 80,000 tracks (5,500 CDs), representing the entire Naxos, Marco Polo, and Da Capo catalogs, and other licensed independent labels. The entire Naxos catalog is available on Naxos Music Library before CDs are released and after they are deleted from the CD catalog. Naxos Music Library includes classical music and six other genres including jazz, blues, world, and Chinese music.

The Schoenberg Archives  A guide to Shoenberg's papers and works held at the Arnold Schonberg Center in Vienna Austria.

Country Music: 75 years of America's favorite music. Music Stacks. ML 3524 M53 1999. A useful resource for finding information chronologically. Includes awards and top songs, plus biographical profiles of artists.

Country Music: A Biographical Dictionary. Music Ref. ML102.C7 C28 2003. Provides biographical information on major country musicians, plus selective recommendations on recordings. Includess portraits, and index and a bibliography. Originally published as The Big Book of Country Music.

Country Music Sources: A biblio-discography of commercially recorded traditional music. Music Ref. ML 156.4 F5 M43 2002. A discography of country and folk music arranged by topic. Includes an extensive bibliography, and song and performer indices.

Country Music: The Rough Guide. Music Ref. ML 3524 W643 2000. Provides historical and biographical information as well as recommended recordings. Arranged by broad topic, not alphabetically by performer. Illustrated, with a very helpful performer index.

Country Standard Time. An online magazine that includes news, features, cd reviews, concert reviews.

Definitive country : the ultimate encyclopedia of country music and its performers. Music Ref. ML102.C7 M33 1995. Includes biographies of performers, awards lists, directory information on agents, record companies etc, radio stations, fan clubs, movies, and a bibliography.

The encyclopedia of country music : the ultimate guide to the music. Music Ref. ML102.C7 E54 2004. Compiled by the staff of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, this work offers the standard biographical information on performers, but also includes extensive lists of awards, top selling albums and other useful information.

The Encyclopedia of Folk, Country and Western Music. Music Ref. ML 102 F66 S7 1983. A very useful resource with extensive entries on folk and country musicians and topics. Includes a huge number of award winner lists. While not as up to date as more recent encyclopedic works, this one is still useful for its depth and scope.

Great American Country (GAC). An online companion to the satellite tv station GAC. Includes news, artists features, and information about the station's shows.

John's Country Links. A good site for finding links to a variety of country music related topics, including artists homepages, radio stations, magazines, organizations and associations.

A Patchwork Quilt: Dolly Parton and the Roots of Country Music. A site created by the Library of Congress that features an array of useful information about Dolly Parton in particular and country music in general. This is part of the series, "The Library of Congress Presents: Music, Theater and Dance, formerly known as "I Hear America Singing," .

Yahoo Entertainment Directory: Country Music. Provides links to hundreds of sites related to country music.

The UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive. The UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive is the among the largest ethnographic sound recording archives in North America. The collections include non-commercial field recordings and commercially produced recordings of traditional, folk, popular, and art musics from Africa, Asia, Australia and the Pacific Islands, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas on a variety of audiovisual formats.

The American Folklife Center (The Library of Congress) Collections include field recordings, Native American and other forms of music.

Archives of Traditional Music at Indiana University. Its holdings cover a wide range of cultural and geographical areas, and include commercial and field recordings of vocal and instrumental music, folktales, interviews, and oral history, as well as videotapes, photographs, and manuscripts.

Manuscripts and Folklife Archives (Western Kentucky State University Special Collections) Folklife Archives holdings consist of papers and projects generated by folk studies undergraduate, graduate, and faculty members coupled with reel-to-reel, audio, and videotape interviews and performances (some transcripts), about folk ways, folk songs, folk beliefs, and regional speech patterns. Two of the outstanding collections of individuals are those of Lynwood Montell and Sarah Gertrude Knott.

Southern Mosaic: The John and Ruby Lomax 1939 Southern States Recording Trip. A multiformat ethnographic field collection that includes nearly 700 sound recordings, as well as fieldnotes, dust jackets, and other manuscripts documenting a three-month, 6,502-mile trip through the southern United States.

Woody Guthrie and the Archive of American Folk Song: Correspondence, 1940-1950 (Library of Congress) Highlights letters between Woody Guthrie and staff of the Archive of American Folk Song (now the Archive of Folk Culture, American Folklife Center) at the Library of Congress.

Jazz Clubs of the World    An online directory with information on jazz venues around the world. Includes links to musicians, news, jazz-related products (cds, videos, books gifts), festivals, agents, magazines, record labels, etc.

A Jazz Improvisation Primer An online textbook with information on all topics related to jazz improvisation. Includes an annotated bibliography and discography. Written by jazz musician, Marc Sabatella.

The Louis Armstrong Discography A work in progress. Information provided includes recording date, artist, song title, composers, matrix number, record label and release number of first issue, and CD/LP reissues.

Louisiana State Music Jazz Collection. "The Louisiana State Museum Digital Library Jazz collection is composed of photographs, audio recordings and musical instruments from the collections of the Louisiana State Museum. Primarily dealing with traditional New Orleans jazz, the collections focus on photographs (including all of the Museum's images of Louis Armstrong) and audio recordings of musicians and bands that were primarily active in New Orleans, although many toured throughout the country and the world. The musical instruments span the makeup of a traditional New Orleans jazz band and include many examples from well-known musicians such as Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Warren "Baby" Dodds, Bix Beiderbecke and others".

Miles Ahead: A Miles Davis Website Includes a discography, organized chronologically, that gives label, date, tune, composer, and (in many cases) a cover graphic. Also includes a sessions index that gives detailed information on each session (locations, releases, tunes, personnel, etc.).

New Grove Dictionary of Jazz. Music Ref. ML102.J3 N48 2001 3 vols.

The Oxford Companion to Jazz. Music Ref. ML 3507 O94 2000.  Includes a variety of essays by well-respected scholars in the field on topics as diverse as the roots of jazz, the blues in jazz,profiles of individual performers, as well as articles the various instruments used in jazz. Bibliography and index also included.

A Passion For Jazz! Music History and Education Chock full of information, including a jazz chronology, information on jazz history, festivals etc. Also includes a photo gallery and a section on jazz chords and scales.

Popular Music and Jazz Research Guide (UCSB)  includes a list of basic reference sources in popular music.

Arhoolie Foundation's Strachwitz Collection of Mexican and Mexican American Recordings (UCLA)   a unique site featuring an index to and soundclips of early 20th century musical recordings by Mexican and Mexican American musicians. Currently the largest repository of Mexican and Mexican-American vernacular recordings in existence.

Billboard Guide to Tejano and Regional Mexican Music. Music Ref. ML102.T45 B87 1999.  A one-of-a-kind resource useful for finding biographical information on Tejano, Norteno, and Mariachi/ranchera musicians from the U.S. and Mexico. Includes birth and death dates and some discographical information.

Border Cultures: Conjunto Music (University of Texas at Austin). " The music of the Mexico/United States border region is one of the most vibrant expressions of this unique culture. The links on this page provide starting points for learning about the conjunto musical style, its history, cultural significance, and artistry."

Cuban Music from A to Z. Music Ref. ML106.C8 O7613 2004. Biographical dictionary on Cuban musicians.

The Diaz-Ayala Cuban Music Collection (Florida Interntional University). FIU's Green Library hosts the world's best Cuban music collection. The entire collection has approximately 100,000 items that span the history of popular Cuban and other Latin Music. Valued at nearly 1 million, the collection features 25,000 LPS; 14,500 78 rpms; 4,500 cassettes containing radio interviews with composers and musicians; 4,000 pieces of sheet music; 3,000 books; and thousands of CDs, photographs, videocassettes and paper files. Among the collection's rarest items are recordings made in pre-revolutionary Cuba.

Diccionario de la música española e hispanoamericana. Music Ref. ML101.S7 D53 1999. 10 vols. This dictionary is an invaluable guide to the music of Spain and Latin America, with subject and biographical entries covering a wide range of topics. Spanish text. Latin American Music Center (Indiana U.) The Latin American Music Center fosters the research and performance of Latin American art music. The Mark Guerrero Homepage . Son of the great Lalo Guerrero, Mark Guerrero hails from Southern California, and has assembled a very useful web page for those interested in Chicano music in general, and in the music of his father in particular. UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive  The UCLA Ethnomusicology Archive is the among the largest ethnographic sound recording archives in North America. Collections include non-commercial field recordings and commercially produced recordings of traditional, folk, popular, and art musics from Africa, Asia, Australia and the Pacific Islands, Europe, the Middle East, and the Americas on a variety of audiovisual formats.
