CEEOL (Central & East European Online Library)
Fulltext coverage for over 250 Central and East European journals in the social sciences and humanities. Some coverage stars in the late 1990s. The UA library purchases a limited number of "downloads" (any time an article is downloaded or accessed), so please only access those articles that you are fairly certain are of interest.

Literature Resource Center
A database containing much of Gale's Contemporary Authors, and Literary Criticism series as well as many others. Provides good, basic biographical, bibliographic, and critical information and resources on authors and works from nearly all cultures and periods. Many critical works, even those published contemporaneously with the literary works from the 19th and early 20th centuries are available fulltext.

A free internet database of German language publications relating to Russia and the Former Soviet Union. Covers 1974-present. Contains over 170,000 records. Currently the search page is in German only. An English version is in the works.
Fulltext searchability for the following Russian newspapers/journals, some as far back as the early 1980s: Argumenty i fakty, Itogi, Izvestiia, Literaturnaia gazeta, Nezavisimaia gazeta, Ogonek, Pravda. All newspapers are in Russian (Cyrillic). Online Cyrillic keyboard is available for searching.

Searchable in transliteration or in Cyrillic and is browsable by date. Subject headings are provided in English and in Russian. A terrific bibliographic resource.

Published in Moscow from 1802 to 1830, Vestnik Evropy was founded by Nikolai Karamzin, famous author and historian. Among the journals contributors were Zhukovskii, Batiushkov, Viazemskii and Derzhavin. Aleksandr Pushkin published his first poems here in 1814. The database includes over 57,000 pages of text. Older orthographic conventions are being regularized in the OCR process to aid in searching. Text is available both in HTML and PDF format.

This site not only does it offer e-versions of most of the classics (War and Peace, Anna Karenina, Brothers Karamazov, Crime and Punishment, We, Doctor Zhivago, and Master and Margarita, just to name a few) but most words in the Russian text is "hyperlinked" to a vocabulary translator and grammar explanation. If nothing else, the underlying technology is mind boggling! The site also allows teachers to select any number of works and assemble them into their own Russian literature reader. The texts are saved in Adobe's Acrobat (.PDF) format.
