Using Indexes & Databases 

In searching for technical reports a good way to begin is by using indexes and databases.

Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) Scientific and Technical Informational Network (STINET)
The technical report collection for the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) contains all unclassified and unlimited technical report citations since 1974. The scope of the collection includes Defense research, as well as, information from hard sciences; environmental pollution and control; and the behavioral sciences. This is due to the widespread interests of the DOD.

National Technical Informational Service (NTIS)
The NTIS database is the primary resource for gain access to U.S. government sponsored research and worldwide research in the scientific, technical and engineering fields. You can purchase unclassified and publicly available information from technical reports, journal articles, computer programs, data files and audio visual products from federal sources. Coverage is from 1983 to the present.

EPA National Service Center for Environmental Publications (NSCEP)
The National Service Center for Environmental Publications is the EPA's central repository and distribution center for the agency's publications.

Energy Citations Database
The Energy Citation Database includes bibliographic records on energy related scientific and technical information from the Department of Energy and its predecessor agencies; ERDA and the AEC. Coverage is 1948 to the present. There are links to full-text reports from 1994 onwards.

NASA Technical Report Server (NTRS)
NASA Technical Reports Sever allows users to search many technical reports and abstracts from servers that are maintained at different NASA centers and programs. It also includes access to full-text of recent reports.
