These laptops are wireless-ready and allow printing to the Library’s printers. They offer software for word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software , and more! A complete list of the hardware and software available on the laptops can be found on our website.

Additionally, there is a Tablet PC "Cheat Sheet" that introduces the pen-based computing available on our Tablet PCs.

These laptops and projectors were made possible by a donation from the Tubbs Family Foundation and by money from the Student Technology Fee.

Check-Out Policy and Procedures for laptops and projectors

  • Loaner laptops are only available to current UA students with a valid CatCard. Users must be in good standing, with no outstanding charges or blocks on their circulation records.
  • Check-out and check-in is at the Information Desk. Laptops must be returned to the same library where they were checked-out.
  • A Laptop Loan Agreement must be signed at time of check-out.
  • Laptops and projectors are loaned for a maximum 4-hour period. When the library closes , the laptops and projectors are due back one hour prior to closing, which may be sooner than the usual 4-hour time period. Always check your receipt for the time the laptop is due.
  • Be aware that it may take up to 10 minutes to complete the check-out or check-in of a laptop or a projector; always allow 10 minutes before your time due when returning a laptop.
  • When using the projectors, you must setup and power down the equipment per the instructions provided at the time of checkout.
  • Laptops and projectors may not be reserved. They are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Laptops and projectors may not be renewed. (If there is no one waiting to check-out a laptop or a projectors, you may check-out another one after the first laptop is returned.)
  • Users may not install personal software, change system settings, download plug-ins, or attach unauthorized hardware.
  • Files should not be stored on the hard drive, as they will be removed when the laptop is powered off or rebooted. You may save your work by e-mailing it as an attachment or saving to a USB drive or CD. Memory sticks and CDs are available for purchase from the Main Library EDC on the 1st floor. The Library accepts no responsibility for lost or damaged files.

Printing from Laptops

  • You can print from a loaner laptop, but only if you are connected to UA WiFi and the spyware is updated. Please refer any questions surrounding printing to the Information Desk.

Liability and Fines

  • Overdue laptops accrue overdue fees of $15 per hour with a maximum fee of $250. There is no grace period, so they must be returned within 4 hours.

  • Any laptop that is 24 hours overdue will be declared lost; a total charge of $2,800.00 will be immediately billed to the user’s library or Bursar’s account.

  • For projectors that are checked out with the laptops, the total fee assessed after 24 hours will be $4,300 which includes the $2,800 laptop and a $1,500 fee for the projectors.

  • Lost or damaged laptops cases, batteries, adaptors and projector accessories will be assessed up to $150 per item.

  • If a user cannot be contacted or refuses to return the equipment, the Library reserves the right to turn the account over to the police for possible prosecution.

  • Users who return laptops or projectors past the due time and date or abuse any of the laptop policies may not be allowed to check-out laptops in the future.

Theft/Damage Prevention

  • You are solely responsible for the laptop, projectors and the peripherals you have checked out. No food or drinks should be in the vicinity as damage fees will be assessed if any damage should occur.

  • Never leave a laptop or projector unattended in any location, as you are responsible for any loss and damage charges.
