Study Carrels are quiet rooms for individual research and studying.

Graduate students and Honors students are able to check-out short-term carrels.

Faculty members and some PhD candidates are able to apply for long-term carrels.

Short-Term Carrels

Current UA Graduate and Honors Students can check-out our short-term carrels for 6 hours at a time. They are located on the 3rd and 2nd floors of the Main Library.

You can one out at the Main Library Information Desk in the ground floor lobby. Call 621-6406 with any questions.

Long Term Carrels

Long term carrels are available at both the Main & the Science-Engineering Libraries. 

We have responded to the need to reduce the number of students on the waiting list and increase the availability of study space by designating 30% of all long term carrels as “shared carrels.” As often as possible, we will work to match students from the same department in one carrel. Please be courteous, clean, orderly, and accommodating.

To be eligible for a Long Term Carrel you must be one of the following:

• Faculty member (Visiting Faculty, Research Associate , Research Assistant Professor, Clinical Assistant,  Retired Emeritus)
• Ph.D. Candidate who has already passed preliminary exams and is enrolled in the current and/or upcoming semester at the UA.
